Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a 66-acre public garden located on the southeastern shore of White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. The site is home to a wide variety of plants, trees, and flowers, as well as numerous sculptures, fountains, and other works of art. It is also home to an educational center and a number of annual festivals and events.

History

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden was established in 1984, with the original site being donated by the city of Dallas. The site was developed over the next several years and opened to the public in 1988. Since then, the arboretum has grown to become one of the most popular attractions in Dallas, with over one million visitors each year.

Gardens

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is home to a wide variety of plants, trees, and flowers. The gardens are divided into several distinct areas, including the A. W. Martin Garden, which features a variety of shrubs and trees; the DeGolyer Garden, which includes a variety of perennials and annuals; and the Rosine Hall, which is home to a variety of native and exotic plants.

The gardens also feature a number of sculptures and works of art, including the iconic bronze statue of a man and woman, which was created by sculptor Robert Berks in 1988. Additionally, the gardens are home to a number of fountains and ponds, as well as a variety of birdfeeders and birdhouses.

Education

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is also home to an educational center, which offers a variety of classes, workshops, and seminars on topics related to gardening, horticulture, and botany. The educational center also offers a variety of field trips for school groups, as well as summer camps for children.

Events and Festivals

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden hosts a number of annual festivals and events throughout the year. These include the annual Spring Festival of Blooms, which features a variety of flowers and plants blooming in the gardens; the Summer Bloom Fest, which focuses on the gardens’ summer blooms; and the Autumn at the Arboretum, which celebrates the changing of the season.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is located at 8525 Garland Road, Dallas, TX 75218. The gardens are open year-round and admission is free.
